Santa Siting After Black Friday!

It appears that Santa has dreams of residing on the beach as well.  After a long Black Friday and many hours of adding people to the naughty list Santa has decided to take a break and do some exercise with the reindeer in a much desired environment.  Santa, you jolly old man, I must say you are man after my own heart!!!!

Now I am searching for my Santa Bikini, next goal, Christmas on the Beach – yes dreaming again!!!!!

Black Friday Shopping What, What WHAT!???!!!!!

Surfer girl is no shopper, can’t stand the malls, and heaven knows don’t ask me to go to Walmart or the grocery store, just makes me cringe.  So with this huge deal about this being the best shopping day of the year and fighting the crowds just to save 10 cents is not ideal.  My idea of a successful Black Friday is to do something outside and enjoy what is hopefully a good weather day (a few years ago this was spent with the family playing disc gold in Florida in the rain and it was awesome) or if not then chill with some awesome movie or book inside with a nice glass of “SOMETHING” refreshing.  This Black Friday started off just like that, mimosa and coffee with baileys to begin the morning.  Then a suggestion of lunch, so being in the mood for one of my favorites Chinese assortment it was, what transpired after that was a shock.  Riding in the car as a passenger with no control (not my favorite position, sort of a control freak here) we arrive at the MALL parking lot.  Curious as to why this was considered an acceptable idea I ask the question – “What are we doing here?”  To which I am told, I have your Victoria Secret coupons thought we would go see what they have…..well, well….  Now VS is a great online shopping experience as I know all my sizes and there is no crowd, no line, no waiting….but since we are here who am I to argue…  (arguing wouldn’t have been helpful at this point – you know the old adage pick and choose your battles).

So into the mall we go, bypass all other stores, navigate through the crowd arrive in the store, b-line to what I want, know my sizes and in less than 15 mins, have selected all of my items, checked out and saved approximately $180.  To which we are now leaving and it wasn’t quite as painful as I thought.  Nice “sack full of goodies” in tow.

VS Bag

Now I have glow in the dark workout outfit along with several other selections. This outfit actually looks a bit like beach attire, imagine that…now I can run early in the morning in the dark and late at night both are the times that actually remotely fit into my schedule and I will be seen not run over.  Between the new attire and the flashing accessories from my police Halloween costume I should be ultra safe.  Now if I could just get that darn weather to cooperate (surfer girl doesn’t like the cold).

Clothing

Not sure how your Black Friday went….kudos to those professional shoppers that ventured out early to obtain the $10 TV that the store had 4 of when you arrived.  Hopefully your day was a success.  Here are a few parting shots that hopefully make you smile and are not a reflection of your experience!

Post Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving was a success, only had to cook the one dessert, and I didn’t make the individual cakes.  The bananas foster cake was good, but with 3 sticks of butter in the recipe how could it be anything but good.  The crawfish etouffee was awesome but I can take no credit for that.  Linda of the VCG was the chef and I have to tell you the compliments on this continued to come.  The dish was compared to that of some pretty famous restaurants in NOLA and her’s outdid the legendary Felix’s etoufee.  With just the right amount of kick and a enough crawfish to have one in every bite the dish was amazing.

While at the VCG we discovered a new addition “ROXY” the miniature pinscher mix breed.  Roxy is a rescue about 3 years old and was an addition inspired by Maxwell Smart after he paid a visit at the VCG over the Halloween weekend.  Roxy looks a bit like the pic below, this is Romeo, how appropriate they would make a good pair.

The family was spread out from east coast to west coast north to south this year at Thanksgiving but some great pics of the spread being served were sent and I must say it did not appear that anyone was hurting for things to eat.  The turkey did elude the table at my house but not permanently, there is a nice fresh turkey in the fridge waiting for prep to be served on Saturday.  I thought my duties of preparing dressing and giblet gravy were going to be sidelined this year, not so….the turkey will be fried so not my responsibility but fixing all the trimmings tomorrow will be on my agenda.  Giblet gravy (YUCK!) contains many things that I don’t eat, one very particular item that will not go down is the boiled egg addition.  A favorite by some in my household, not one I relish preparing, however I do love to please so I will be preparing deviled eggs as well.

Hope you are enjoying a festive time this holiday weekend and having fun with family and friends!  My thoughts still wander to the beach and my next trip to the shore, maybe Christmas……

Additional Turkey Post – ‘Tis the Season

So, beach bum girls even those that are on a mission to maintain a certain weight do dream of the infamous Turkey Day and all the eats to be had.  In my mission to find some pretty amazing recipes to try out (in my spare time as I have so much of that these days) and I came across a few that I will need to make a trip to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients.  The banana fosters cake mentioned in a prior post, will be a newby at my house and I hope it tastes as good as the icky sticky picture made it look.  Being a sucker for some bananas foster dessert I thought what better way than to try it with cake.   I am going to add a bit of a twist and make it in individual ramekins, oh, and guess what that will resemble?  Yes that’s right Upside Down CupCake Bananas Foster!!!!  Now if you have ever heard of a Crazee dessert that is one to try out.  I can taste the RUM now!  I am still dreaming of spending Thanksgiving on the BEACH because that has become a tradition in this household but unfortunately time does not permit this year.  So with the Dreams still piling up and destination beach being the number one goal these days I will leave you with these fantastic photos of Turkeys that beat me to my destination!

Time to select the TURKEY!!!

Well everyone it’s Thanksgiving week and lots of furious activity regarding what to serve for dinner is happening all across the country.  I have a large turkey all ready to be groomed and cooked for the splendid day but it won’t be happening this year.  I normally fix the much coveted oyster dressing but not this year, it will be a bit different type of celebration. Looking forward to possibly partaking in some crawfish ettouffee. My goal is to serve a nice banana foster cake as a dessert.  For those of you that are hunting down the perfect bird to serve, thought this pic might put a smile on your face.  Turkey at Disney and turkey on the beach, wow these birds just thought they won the lottery.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Now this is my kinda bird!

Gooooood Morning Monday!!!!

So are you ready for this week, come on it has to be good, there is a holiday filled with food stuck almost right in the middle! Just a quick boost to start the week.  Still at the homework but I feel so much farther along.  I think I will have the entire semester knocked out by this weekend!  Just think in a couple more hours I will be drinking coffee, only thing left would be some icing piled up on my CupCake!!!!

Sunday Homework Stretch

So, this rainy Sunday in November once again affords me the opportunity to get as much homework as possible accomplished.  Globalization, effect on democracy, drafting a press release for the National Association of Trauma Specialists and the under staffed level of emergency room specialists staff in the entire state of Tennessee, creating a blog regarding my career, along with two exams.  Unlike this blog, one that allows me to express my feelings, share some hidden secrets still not unveiled and among other things VENT!!!  My new blog will be all professional and one needed to add to my resume for career searches in my field of study for when I truly can reside at the beach and spend my evenings lounging by the sea with my toes dangling in the water.  Living the dream is getting closer and closer to my grasp and I refuse to allow anyone to get in my way and slow down this process.  I will through my newly obtained techniques in Pilates and Yoga return to the basics.  Much like some of my more challenging experiences in my life each day brings a new set of obstacles and how we overcome these obstacles is what makes us who we are.

To my new found inner peace that I refuse to let anyone or anything steal from me, as I continue to grow and improve may my positive attitude be a reflection to others that positively impacts them as well.  (Once in a while I have a melt down, trying to limit those to private times with no witnesses but thank you to those who help peel me off the ceiling lately).

Until we meet on a warm, sunny, always inviting beach some day…….this surfer girl, beach bum is sending positive thoughts to you for a calmer, peaceful life of never ending perfect waves to surf on!

Aquarium of the Pacific

Modeled after Blue Cavern Point, a kelp forest along the northeastern coast of Santa Catalina Island.

This exhibit represents the underwater habitat you would find along our coast and around local islands.

Kelp forests provide shelter, food, and breeding grounds for many species, including other algae, marine mammals, fish, birds, invertebrates, and plankton. Some animals to look out for are leopard sharks, California moray eels, California sheephead, giant sea bass, and our divers!

I totally use this to lower my blood pressure at times, just makes me dream even more of when I will reside at the beach!  Can’t be soon enough!
